I have been looking at the open hardware 353 camera that you have on your

The next generation of the system board is in planned. It's on hold until
the other big project is finished.

Most of the C code is not ETRAX specific (cross compiler deals with that).
But there are parts for the boot where special instructions could be used
(haven't seen it myself) like direct memory access.
