Is there a PHP API for selecting a configuration ?

No. As a workaround you could have a php script that would be setting the
parameters of interest.
Examples of such initialization are snapfull.php,camera_demo.php - they can
be found
a. on the camera in "/usr/html"
b. in the cvs folder in "packages/web/353/php_top"
c. at the sf.net<http://elphel.cvs.sourceforge.net/viewvc/elphel/elphel353-8.0/packages/web/353/php_top/>
