I simply restart the connection from the VLC to the IP address:554.
Only on a couple of occasions have I had to cold-reboot (power cycle) the camera. 
Generally, restarting the VLC connection connects probably 95% of the time.
I will do a more exact measure and get better data back to you.

Not that I have noticed. I have measured both with an external IR temp reader
and there is little difference between them.

Thanks Andrey I will certainly give that a go too.

I am currently interstate, but once back I give each camera a bigger/harder workout and see if I can get any differentiated result.
I am also having issues with NFS between one camera and a regular Linux host. I will investigate further and
get back to you ASAP.
