[Elphel-support] What a strange issue

Jeff,

To configure your network properly after you have your first IP configured
you need to type:
ifconfig eth0:0 192.168.0.15 netmask 255.255.255.0
(you can add it to your /etc/rc.local to have it configured at boot)

ifconfig eth0 add - made a total mess, IP in one range, netmask and
broadcast from the main one...

Now about Mobotix. It did not reflashed the cameras but uploaded some files
on the camera file-system overwriting few files. ... Or... maybe it's some
strange network behavior because of the broadcast / netmask and you browse
partially both IP cameras.

If the problem persist after proper network configuration try to reflash
your camera.

In your case you record to HDD attached to the camera, but I would really
recommend separating camera network from university network for:
- security considerations (because of the default root password on the
cameras, and fully accessible web interface)
- if you would use multicast (not to overload the university network)
- not to have other's network load (possibly video surveillance camera
multicast overloading or conflicting with your multicast address...)

Apple have a small USB network card working out of the box on GNU/Linux:
