Quantitative Study:

Value Creation Taxonomy

Dear Sir or Madam

My name is Patrick Grames and I am a student of industrial engineering at
Helmut – Schmidt – University of the German Federal Armed Forces in Hamburg,
Germany.

I belong to the department of production engineering. One of our current
fields of research is value creation taxonomy.

As a research student I take part in a preliminary study about
open source hardware projects.

This is why I am addressing you.

After intensive search we identified you as an initiator of a current OSH
project. In addition, we think that your knowledge can contribute decisive
input to our study.

So to put the study on a firm fitting, it would be great if you invested
some minutes to answer the questions below just in a simple reply
e-mail.

Of course I will send you a copy of the final report of the preliminary
research to make you benefit from your cooperativeness.

I look forward to receiving some interesting opinions from you.

Yours faithfully

Patrick Grames

Questionnaire

Can you describe in which state of development your project currently is?

Who is generally in charge of leading your products to success? “CEO or
community?” Why?

How do you cope with the situation of too much feedback which can sometimes
be provided by communities?

Intellectual property. What do you think of it? How do you use it? Do you
protect it?

Do you think that experiences form the Open Source Software concept can
reasonably be transferred to OSH?

Are you facing any problems related to license or patents?

“OSH is an idea for some tech freaks which will never be able to develop a
serious market among tech haters.”
What is your opinion?

Are there certain limits of openness in your philosophy, like: “This is
where ‘open’ ends and the key secrets of our supply chain start?
