David, it is better to "reboot -f" or run "sync" before power cycling after you wrote to the flash (it is jffs2) 

You may also "killall -9 imgsrv" - it will be restarted automatically.

 but after putting the file in the camera are there any other rituals to perform? 
 Or will a simple power cycle do it?
