[Elphel-support] Power requirement

Is there any information available on bypassing the diode bridge?

Experimentally on the single camera I have tested (originally a 48v version I mod’d for 12-36v) the absolute minimal voltage the camera seems to properly operate is 10.8v. My current design in theory should be delivering 11.4v at the camera so an extra margin of safety would be nice otherwise I may need to add a buck/boost regulator into the mix which I would really like to avoid if possible.

Hello Shane,

There is a diode bridge before the DC-DC converter - this is why you need higher voltage than the DC-DC specs say. You can remove that diode bridge (bypass it with vire jumpers over) - that would give you about 1 V extra margin.
The extra power requirements for the HDD are caused by motor start, without it there are no significant start-up currents, and the required margin is lower.
