Hello,

We try to investigate the external trigger mode for the camera in order to
ba able to synchronize it with a lazer plan for Particule Images
Velocimetry.

It is well known that when this mode is not well mastered the grabber freeze
forcing a hard reset to use it again.

As I have a POE switch, I would benefit from the internet connection using
it.

So I first configure my ehternet board with ifconfig and route, and then I
add the camera domain, using

ifconfig eth0 add 192.168.0.8

This command creates a sub device eth0:0

I thought I was able to use the camera and search on the internet.

I haven't realize that the camera was visible form the entire University
network, beacause of the netmask and gw used for the internet connection.

So finally I have this if config settings

eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:40:45:34:6d:7a
          inet adr:134.206.140.221 Bcast:134.206.255.255
Masque:255.255.0.0

          collisions:0 lg file transmission:0
          Octets reçus:82033 (82.0 KB) Octets transmis:82033 (82.0 KB)

Masque:255.255.255.0
UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
          Packets reçus:0 erreurs:0 :0 overruns:0 frame:0

          collisions:0 lg file transmission:0
          Octets reçus:0 (0.0 B) Octets transmis:34160 (34.1 KB)

So I join you the picture I have after rebooting the camera. It seems that
this camera was detected as a security camera and flashed by the security
LAN I assume that it's due to the use of the same processor.

I finally have to flash the camera to get a working system.

So I try to known if there is a proper way to get a "secure" network.
I find that it is possible to set the sub device eth0:0 broadcast address
using this command :

sudo ifconfig eth0:0 broadcast 192.168.0.255

Using this command I finally get a configuration that seems correct :

eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:40:45:34:6d:7a
          inet adr:134.206.140.221 Bcast:134.206.255.255

Do you think this configuration is Ok and risk-less ?

I've been advised that it would be better to buy a usb/ethernet adapter, but
I would prefer master the switch mode. I you think it is too risky I will
buy one of this adapters.

So my purpose with this mail is to find a way to configure properly a LAN
with camera and internet and to underline that we have to be careful when
using the camera on a LAN.

I hope this will prevent people using a PoE switch from bad surprises.

Best regards.
