Phil,

How exactly are you recording video - what software, what file format,
resolution, frame rate.
What firmware version do you have?
Where do you enable KML - it is not needed, the best is just to use *.mov
format - lowest CPU overhead (and if the GPS is connected the data will be
recorded).
